The City of Jal, in cooperation with the New Mexico Department of Transportation, is holding a public meeting to present project design alternatives and receive input from the public. Proposed alternatives have been designed to address safety, traffic operations, travel time, congestion, and vehicle-train conflicts.

NMEDD "Buy for Tomorrow Today" Initiative to Help Local Businesses

The New Mexico Economic Development Department has developed a web site that helps shoppers find merchants offering a “Buy For Tomorrow” gift card campaign which can help businesses receive revenues despite the disruption necessary for us to all effectively respond to the COVID-19 pandemic

Summary of Cares Act, Third COVID-19 Response Package

On March 27, President Trump signed the CARES Act (H.R. 748), a $2 trillion emergency package intended to stave off total economic collapse in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

Convenience Center Update (dump)

The Convenience Center will be open regular business hours. In order to limit person-to-person contact, only 1 person will be allowed in at a time.

Local Entities Collaborate to Create a COVID-19 Protocol

The Jal Clinic, City of Jal, Jal Police Department, City of Jal Fire/EMS, Jal Schools, and Woolworth Library are coordinating efforts to understand and monitor COVID-19 as it develops. These entities met two weeks ago and again on March 19, 2020 together to gather and share information at the local level. The web pages and Facebook pages for each of the above entities are being updated and available for local Jal residents to refer to for information about the COVID-19 virus.

 

City of Jal Closed Until Further Notice

Due to COVID-19, the City of Jal has made the decision to minimize its staff. Under the Governor’s directive, the City is applying social distancing procedures. State officials are encouraging everyone to do their part and practice these procedures. People, especially those who are sick are asked to stay home.

The City of Jal Coronavirus COVID-19 Precautions

The City of Jal is taking special precautions at this time due to the Coronavirus COVID-19. The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 to be a “Public Health Emergency of International Concern” and categorized it as a pandemic.

Being Prepared for the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Although much still isn’t known about the 2019 Coronavirus the CDC is able to use its knowledge based on similar coronaviruses they have dealt with in the past to keep the public informed and hopefully prepared.

The Jal Youth Advisory Council will be hosting a Clean Up Day on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 8 am - 12 pm.
This event is a one-day, city-wide volunteer day. With your support and volunteers, this event is sure to make an impact on our
"Small Town Big Heart" Community.

NM 128 Relief Route Public Meeting

Notice of Possible Quorum of the Jal City Council
Members of the Governing Body of the City of Jal will be sponsoring a public meeting to provide information and initial alternatives for improving the traffic flow thru Jal. Members of the public are invited to attend the meeting, provide input and feedback into alternatives development, and to ask questions.

Meeting will take place at the Woolworth Community Library Auditorium, 100 E. Utah Ave, Jal NM 88252 on Feb. 13, 2020 at 6:00pm.

Use of Plastic Bag Public Meeting

Notice of Possible Quorum of the Jal City Council. 
Members of the Governing Body of the City of Jal will be meeting with business owners to discuss use of plastic bags with local business owners and possible alternatives on Feb. 11, 2020 at 4:00 pm in the Council Chambers.

Public Hearing

The public is invited to a  Public Hearing discussing approval or disapproval of a Liquor License Application #1152055 for Casey Savoie DBA D Bar Cafe at 5:00 pm Monday Feb. 10, 2020 in the Council Chambers.

2020 Municipal Officer Election

The City of Jal will be having a municipal election on March 3, 2020, to fill 4 City Councilor positions (one 2-year term and three 4-year term). Please visit the Election Department page for more information.

Jal approves restaurant beer, wine sales

In their first mail-in ballot special election, Jal voters have narrowly approved beer and wine sales in restaurants for on-premises consumption only.
